How it works
Enter your goods
Paste a packing list (name, tonnes, tCO2e per tonne) or type rows directly. Parsing happens on your device — nothing is uploaded.
Set two assumptions
The weekly EU ETS certificate price (link to the official page provided) and the declaration year, which drives the CBAM factor from 2.5% in 2026 to 100% by 2034.
Get a cost range
Mass × intensity × factor × price, computed live with a ±20% sensitivity band. Copy the summary or print a shareable report.
The CBAM factor ramps up every year
From 2026, EU importers buy certificates for a growing share of embedded emissions as EU ETS free allocation phases out, per Regulation (EU) 2023/956. The year selector applies this schedule automatically:
| Year | CBAM factor (share you pay) | Example cost per 100 tCO2e embedded |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 2.5% | 188 certificates · ≈ €14,063 at €75/t (example price) |
| 2027 | 5% | 375 certificates · ≈ €28,125 at €75/t (example price) |
| 2028 | 10% | 750 certificates · ≈ €56,250 at €75/t (example price) |
| 2029 | 22.5% | 1688 certificates · ≈ €126,563 at €75/t (example price) |
| 2030 | 48.5% | 3638 certificates · ≈ €272,813 at €75/t (example price) |
| 2031 | 61% | 4575 certificates · ≈ €343,125 at €75/t (example price) |
| 2032 | 73.5% | 5513 certificates · ≈ €413,438 at €75/t (example price) |
| 2033 | 86% | 6450 certificates · ≈ €483,750 at €75/t (example price) |
| 2034 | 100% | 7500 certificates · ≈ €562,500 at €75/t (example price) |
Example price only — certificate prices are published weekly by the European Commission.
Built for exporters and importers, not consultancies
Zero uploads
Parsing and math run locally in your browser. There is no server-side form handler — your packing lists never leave the device.
Instant, not a quote funnel
Most CBAM tools are lead-gen forms that end in a sales call. This one just gives you the number, free.
Every assumption visible
Price, factor schedule and intensities are labelled, editable inputs — with official sources linked, not hidden.
Range, not false precision
Certificate prices move weekly; a ±20% band with a mid estimate beats a confident wrong number.
Frequently asked questions
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculator is a static page — parsing, math and the report all happen in your browser. There is no server-side form handler at all.
How accurate is the estimate?
The arithmetic is exact; the inputs carry the uncertainty. Certificate prices move weekly, intensities vary by installation, and rules evolve — hence the range and the disclaimers.
Is this legal or compliance advice?
No. It is an estimation and education tool. Official rules, default values and prices are published by the European Commission; verify before filing or contracting.
What goods does CBAM cover?
Cement, iron and steel, aluminium, fertilisers, electricity and hydrogen, plus a range of downstream products — check the CN-code lists in the official legislation for your exact goods.
Why is a free tool doing what consultancies charge for?
The arithmetic is public and mechanical. Consultancies sell assurance and filing work; a transparent estimator with editable, sourced assumptions covers the planning use-case.
