About cbam cost calculator

CBAM cost is four numbers multiplied together, and every one of them is either knowable or negotiable: net mass of goods, specific embedded emissions, the certificate price for the week, and the CBAM factor for the year.

The output is a range, not a point estimate — certificate prices move weekly with EU ETS auctions, so a ±20% band is honest planning. Use the mid estimate for budgeting and the high end for worst-case quotes.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the price I should use change every week?

CBAM certificates are priced from the weekly average of EU ETS allowance auctions, published by the European Commission. The calculator links to the official page — never hard-code a stale number into a long-lived quote.

Who actually buys the certificates, me or my EU customer?

The EU importer of record buys and surrenders them. In practice the cost gets negotiated back into supply contracts — which is exactly why exporters need their own estimate before quoting.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The calculator is a static page — parsing, math and the report all happen in your browser. There is no server-side form handler at all.

How accurate is the estimate?

The arithmetic is exact; the inputs carry the uncertainty. Certificate prices move weekly, intensities vary by installation, and rules evolve — hence the range and the disclaimers.

Is this legal or compliance advice?

No. It is an estimation and education tool. Official rules, default values and prices are published by the European Commission; verify before filing or contracting.
